The 2017 season sees Gregory Mountain Products launch two entirely new trekking packs (albeit with old names): the AMBER (women) and the STOUT (men). As entry-level models, they offer the comfort you’d expect from Gregory, at minimal weight. But Gregory haven’t compromised on the durability of the materials. They’ve simply trimmed down the construction and features. The Amber and Stout come in just one back length, which is easily adjusted to the individual’s torso using the TrailFlex adjustment system. The wishbone frame gives it good stability as well as flexibility.
If you’re familiar with Gregory, then you’ll know that fit is their top priority. ‘A backpack must fit like a pair of shoes’. That is why the Amber and Stout can be adjusted to the individual’s torso. The TrailFlex suspension system allows the back length of these new packs to be fine-tuned. So an S-size backpack can be transformed into an L-size backpack in no time.
The TrailFlex suspension system is built around a tubular frame made from aluminium alloy with sprung steel vertical reinforcements. This results in a highly effective load transfer centred on the lumbar pads. So even heavy loads can be carried in comfort over great distances.
The two largest models in the range also feature a fit-adjustable waist belt. When the belt is adjusted, the two pockets on the hip fins shift to the front to keep everything in easy reach – pretty neat. The backplate has airy foam padding covered in airy mesh for good ventilation.
Gregory have fitted all models with a large front pocket made of stretchy mesh. So items like rain jacket, sun cream etc. are quick and easy to access. The rain cover sits right behind the front pocket, so if the weather changes suddenly, this too is quick to hand, without having to remove half the pack’s contents.
The Amber and Stout are suited to a range of activities from trekking through to backpacking. The women’s version is available in three sizes (60/ 44/ 34 litres) and the men’s in four sizes (75/ 65/ 45/ 35 litres), each with one size back length. For further information from early 2017
